NGSS_Tweeps Take Over!!!

I was shocked and honored that I was asked to be one of the rotating teachers for NGSS_Tweeps this week.   Overall, it was a great experience.  I more nervous than anything. I decided to do what comes naturally to me and be their to assist fellow science educators.  The Friday before my take I started getting sick.  I thought is was a cold but it turned out to be chronic/acute sinusitis.  When I took over that Sunday I decided to preload using tweetdeck.  I could tell I wasn't going to be feeling well.  I was correct I was down for the count the whole week and still recovering as I type this reflection. I decided to create short videos with music since I couldn't reflect about my classroom this week.  On Sunday, the administration introduced me, I changed the profile pic, and loaded my introduction video.

I decided to discussed the following topics:
  • Administrative/District/State/Support
  • 3 Demensions of NGSS
  • Having a teaching practice that supports the vision Of NGSS
  • What are performance expectations?  Why are they important?
  • Instructional Strategies
  • Education Technology
  • Establishing relationships with students
  • Culturally Responsive and Equitable Phenomenon

I also shared environmental science curriculum:

www.climategen.org

Hurricane Resilence Curriculum

Education Technology Shared:  Loom, Screencastify, Flipgrid, Canva for Education etc.

Instructional Strategies:  Choice Board, Hyperdocs, One Pagers (Vocabulary & Assessments), Multimedia Text Sets

Video Clips:  3-D Learning, Performance Expectations, Introduction, & Recap

Overall it was a rewarding experience.  I would do it again, it was fun.  Now that I have had time to reflect.  I would change a few things:

  • Post questions every 3 hours.  I have to realize educators are working and need time to catch up.
  • Post fewer instructional strategies and Education Tech Tools.  It can be overwhelming.  I didn't realize the amount of how resources I have acquired in 5 years.
  • If there is a next time, I would post more about what is going on in the classroom.  Unfortunately this time I had to go to Plan B because I was sick.
This experience has help me realized my place in education.  Now I just need to reflect and make next decisions.
